10 Of The Best Photo Editing Apps
We are all photographers in our own right; snapping selfies, travel pics and visual diaries wherever we go. Smartphones have made it so much easier to capture all elements of our lives, which is both fun and wonderful for posterity. So in light of the fact that we all love to take a decent pic and post it to our Instagram, here are 10 of the best photo editing apps to help you make your pics look like they were taken by a professional photographer.
Loads of professional photographers already use Snapseed to help enhance images the way they want to at the touch of a few buttons.
Cropping, adjusting colour and sharpness, fixing blemishes and many other little tweaks are all available. This app primes your photo for further adjustment in other apps, or straight posting from Instagram or your other social channels.
VSCO is another photo app that is used by many professionals. It’s also a direct link to a number of other incredible photographers and artists who showcase their work online. It offers numerous presets that can enhance your photos, change the colouring, add clarity or perspective, adjust exposure, temperature, crop etc. It also allows you to straighten, rotate and all those good things. You’ll probably notice a lot of Instagram photographers that post with the hashtag #VSCO or #madewithVSCO… they know what they’re talking about! In-app purchases are also available, but the free app is just fine the way it is if you don’t need more advanced features and presets. Great photo app for great results.
This is a pretty cool app that works in conjunction with Instagram. Although Instagram now allows you to adjust your photos beyond their square dimensions, Instasize was there to give you more options that prevented the cropping of your lovely pics. Still viable today, this app will give your photos the edge they require with beautiful borders and photo frames, professional filters and stickers, as well as the ability to touch-up, where needed. You can also create collages with the app before making your final post to Instagram or other social networks.
Over is a beautiful way for you to add stunning typeface overlays to your already awesome images. The available fonts are all top of the line creative additions that can add the finishing touches to your already perfect photograph. The great thing about Over is that it’s perfect for business pics that need a professional call to action or weblink added to the image. No matter which font your choose, it’s always guaranteed to look divine!
It’s free, but in-app purchases are also available. Try it out and see what a difference it makes to your photos.
5. Lens Distortions
Sometimes you just want to add a burst of light to your photos, or perhaps you want to change the focus of the image so that you only notice the foreground or a particular object in the pic. With Lens Distortions, you can add incredible dimension to your photographs, simply by making use of their optically captured elements.
The app is extremely user-friendly and is also free in the iTunes appstore, but in-app purchases are available if you want to take your photo editing to another level. The features aren’t plentiful, but the focus is definitely on quality rather than quantity.
For vintage photography edits at their best, Reflex is an excellent app to use. Choose from a range of vintage textures to add to your photos, each one coming with a specific mood and authentic old-school appeal. When you’re done, you can add a border of your choice from one of three border packs, which offer a total of 39 different options. While the app comes with enough features for you to get exactly what you want from it, there are loads of in-app purchases available too.
The straight-up app is available in the iTunes store for R37.99 currently, and in-app purchases are available from R18.99 to R99 per pack.
If you love messing around with textures, then Mextures is the camera app for you! Apply awesome textures such as authentic film grain, additional light, gradients and more to each photo, you have 130 textures to choose from, which is simply epic. You can also apply any feature at any stage during the editing process. Work in layers and move or edit your layers as you go to finalise that perfect look.
The really super-cool thing about Mextures is that you can save the formula you came up with to perfect your picture and use it again on another raw image. You can also borrow formulas from friends.
Enlight is doing a little bit more than simply being a photo editing application. Working together with Apple, all proceeds made from the sale of the Enlight app are now being donated to WWF.
The app adds stylised features to your photography that can be classified as art. Photos can also be edited in the standard ways, but it’s the preset touches that will take your breath away. Examples of this are the fact that you can draw directly on your photos, you can add beautiful overlays, or you can convert your photo into an artist’s masterpiece. There are loads of features to keep you busy and by buying the app, you’re contributing to saving the environment too!
Here’s a little app that everyone will need from time to time. Facetune is really cool because it gives you the ability to enhance your facial features, remove blemishes, whiten teeth, perhaps even smudge out a wrinkle or two! Got red eye in your photos? Remove it! Have spinach stuck in your teeth? Take it out!
While some people might think this is cheating, it’s really valuable if you want to have a finished product that makes everyone in the photo look great! One of their taglines is: “Don’t wait for the perfect shot. Facetune it!” That pretty much sums it up.
Instagram has some cool filters and they occasionally add more or update them, but haven’t you ever felt like you are far too limited with the current range? Other photo apps also add another few filters to the mix, but with Infltr, you can gain access to… millions. Yup, millions of combinations for filters that will keep you busy exploring for the rest of your life. It’s quite insane, really.
You can add a filter before you shoot, or you can swipe across your photograph to see how numerous filters look on your newly snapped pic. You can even add filters to your panoramic shots, which isn’t a feature that is readily available on many apps. For variety and endless options, Infltr is pretty much the way to go.
Currently, the app is only available in the iTunes appstore for R59.99.
